A conversation about readiness to practise?

Are you a newly qualified social worker (who qualified from a NZ programme within the past two years and are working as a social worker in NZ for at least six months) or have you managed or supervised a newly qualified social worker in NZ within the last two years? If so, we would love to talk to you about your perspectives on the readiness to practise of newly qualified social workers. Participation would involve you being interviewed for about 60 minutes by a member of our research team, either face-to-face, by Skype or phone.

If you were a participant in our recent NQSW survey, please note that the survey suggested we wanted paired interviews with NQSWs and their managers. We no longer require this arrangement and request volunteers from any NQSW and any NQSW supervisor/manager independently of each other.

The aim of this project, funded by the Ako Aotearoa National Project Fund, is to develop a professional capabilities framework to clarify the capabilities of newly qualified social workers and social workers at experienced and advanced levels of practice.

Participation is voluntary and you may withdraw from the research up until you have approved your interview transcript. You may also choose not to answer any of the interview questions. Individual participants, and their places of work, will not be identified and confidentiality will be assured during all stages of the research.

If you are interested in participating, or would like further information, please contact: Dr Kathryn Hay from Massey University School of Social Work on K.S.Hay@massey.ac.nz
